Here are the links to our final project! The first link is to the playwriting journal that I created for the students to guide them through the process, and the second link is to a document with all of their typed up final drafts of their plays. Some of the students were missing on multiple days that we worked on this project, so not all of the scripts are completed. Hopefully the students will get the chance to finish with their classroom teacher in the coming weeks, even though my time with them is up.
I used the following National Arts Standards for 5th grade in Theatre to create and supplement this project:
TH:Cr2.1.5 a. Devise original ideas for a drama/theatre work that reflect collective inquiry about characters and their given circumstances. TH:Cr1.1.5 c.Imagine how a character's inner thoughts impact the story and given circumstances in a drama/theatre work. TH:Pr4.1.5 a. Describe the underlying thoughts and emotions that create dialogue and action in a drama/theatre work. I also used the following Utah Core English and Language Arts Standards for 5th grade to create and supplement this project: Writing Standard 3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences. a. Orient the reader by establishing a situation and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally. c. Use a variety of transitional words, phrases, and clauses to manage the sequence of events. e. Provide a conclusion that follows from the narrated experiences or events.
